The Physical Education Department at Carter Community School is an enthusiastic, committed and forward thinking team.
The department currently consists of 4 members of staff, one of whom is our School Sports Co-ordinator plus a multi-sport coach. The team are strongly committed to raising the standards of teaching and learning across the PE Curriculum whilst offering a variety of opportunities to the students at Carter.
The department has access to a range of onsite facilities, which are constantly improving.
- A 4 Court Sports Hall
- 8 Floodlit Tennis Courts
- 4 Floodlit Netball Courts
- Floodlit 3G Pitch
- PE Specific Classroom with interactive whiteboard.
The Department is well supported by other staff members and offers a superb extra curricular programme where participation rates continue to increase. We strongly feel that extra curricular sport makes a valuable contribution to the ethos of the school and makes a significant impact on the social, moral and physical education of young people.
It is the aim of the PE Department to deliver High Quality PE, alongside ensuring all students at Carter are fit, healthy, hygienic and happy. We strongly believe in a 'sport for all' approach where each individual will understand the importance of regular exercise and leave with raised self-esteem and a high feeling of self worth.
In the curriculum area, we aim to create an effective and positive learning environment where students feel comfortable in approaching new and challenging concepts within a supportive environment. This allows all students, whatever their sporting ability, to be challenged according to their level and to in turn develop their own self-confidence.
Student KS4 Options - OCR Sports Science
Elite sport has embraced sport science disciplines wholeheartedly in the past few decades, moving from a perspective which assumed the primacy of natural talent in producing outstanding performance, to one which considers every minute detail of an athlete’s training programme, rest time, environment and psychology in the pursuit of excellence. The Cambridge Nationals in Sport Science offer students the opportunity to study key areas of sport science including anatomy and physiology linked to fitness, health, injury and performance; the science of training and application of training principles, and psychology in sport and sports performance.
