What is Resistant Materials?
This examination coursework involves designing and making a product in 3D from a range of materials. Students are given the opportunity to choose from a range of design briefs that are set by the exam board and written in such a way that they cater for all students individual strengths. For completion of the coursework students will be expected to complete a thorough design folio which will investigate and analyse the design context leading to a thorough research strategy and investigation of the problem. They will then produce a range of ideas for a design solution choosing and developing their best design (including modelling and modifications) to a completed prototype in 3D. This would then be tested and evaluated thoroughly as part of the process. 60% of the GCSE is based on your design and research folder and final product. This will be a minimum of 20 detailed pages and the final product will be constructed to a high standard. You will be expected to work after school to complete practical work.
40% of the GCSE is a two hour exam paper testing your designing and construction knowledge. Exam revision and commitment are essential min 15 hours.

Foundation skills in wood, making a wall mounted storage unit.
Foundation skills in metal and engineering, making a garden trowel.
CAD CAM plastics project using 2d design software
