On Thursday 2nd of March, a group of year 7 and 8 handball participants and sports leaders helped out with a year 5 and 6 tournament after school until 5. The participants were made up of a mixture of Oakdale and Hamworthy Park Junior School. The leaders started by splitting the players into 6 groups, they started with a fun game of ball tag which progressed into two ball tag and then they focused on shooting on the move with a progression of jump shots.
The sports hall was split into three courts with the carter students refereeing each match, keeping track of the scores and making sure each game was played within the time frame. The sports leaders had to make sure they were firm but fair as for some of the primary students this was their first time playing handball. The sports leaders worked together and showed understanding on the rules of handball and were able to allow the event to be carried out successfully allowing enjoyment for both the middle school students and for the leaders.
