U13’s Girls Cricket Tournament

U13’s Girls Cricket Tournament

Published: 28 February 2017

It was a cold, wet and windy morning. Luckily, for the girls they were taking part in an under-13’s INDOOR cricket tournament. The girls played Lychett Minster, Swanage and St. Michaels. It was 09:15am and the girls started warming up, this was going to be their first ever competitive cricket match so the nerves were high.

Game 1: Carter vs. Lychett

09:45- Lychett arrive

After a brief introduction, where the rules were explained, the last minutes of practise commenced, not long after practise the game started. We batted first and started very strong. Jeni and Amelia were first up to bat scoring a few runs and picking up plenty of points from wide balls. Each member of the team got the opportunity to have a hit and score a few runs. In the Meanwhile the other schools started arriving.

Game 2: Carter vs. St. Michaels

After a long break we were ready and exited to play. Yet again we batted first. After using our first game as a warm up we were more confident in our batting skills alloying us to now score more runs. We started to learn to risk running between stumps to allow us to score more points. It was then our turn to field and we were very successful.  Chloe, Amelia and Emily worked in the field well together and all three girls managed to stump the other team out.

Game 3: Carter vs. Swanage

Our final game of the day and we had progressed rapidly and we were ready to put up a good fight. Again we batted first and scored the most amount of runs we had in the whole tournament. It was our turn to field and on the first over Rosie made an amazing catch to get a Swanage batter out. Amelia launched the cricket ball at the stumps with superb accuracy to stump another Swanage batter out. Exactly three minutes passed and Amelia strikes again. Another one bites the dust after Rosie, an amazing bowler, collected the ball and hit the stumps. Rosie gets another person out. Amelia stumps another out. A great performance by Carter yet again. Elouise made another amazing throw at the stumps but missed by less than a cm. Carter played extremely well in their first cricket tournament.

A wonderful day was had by all and all of the girls came away from the tournament feeling proud of themselves as they had improved dramatically throughout the day.  The day ended in smiles and everyone was pleased with their performance. Well done St. Michaels for winning and well done to Annastacia Mulheran, Emily Simes-Davies, Erin Shuttle, Elouise Weedon, Chloe Booth, Rosie Fleming, Amelia Pecival and Jeni White for the most improved team.
