Lunch and Break times

Healthy hot and cold food is made on site by our own catering team. Students may purchase food at morning break and lunchtime. Alternatively, students may bring their own packed lunches to eat in the dining room. Students are asked not to bring fizzy drinks to school. Students can also purchase breakfast between 8.15 and 8.30am.

Students are not permitted to leave the school site during break or lunchtimes

Keeping Parents informed

The school uses Arbor to send automated Text (SMS) messages to parents, staff and key contacts. This will be used for Unauthorised absences, advanced notice of letters home, Parents Evening, School Trips, and events.

Student Attendance

At Carter Community School, we expect all students to attend regularly to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them.  Good attendance and punctuality are vital to a student’s education. It is also important for success and achievement in later life that students get into good habits with regard to attendance and punctuality. We expect all of our students to aspire to 100% attendance and appreciate the full support of parents and carers in encouraging this. The minimum level of attendance for this school is 95%; we keep parents/carers updated regularly about progress to this level. The school has targets to improve attendance and your child has an important part to play in meeting these targets.

Ensuring your child’s regular attendance at school is your legal responsibility and allowing your child to be absent from school without a good reason creates an offence in law and may result in Fixed Penalty Notices or even prosecution. Failing to attend this school on a regular basis will be considered as a safeguarding matter. Only the school, within the context of the law, can approve absence. Parents cannot approve absence.

Parents do not have the right to take their child out of school during term time for holidays, and the academy, as per government regulations, does not have to authorise such absences unless there are exceptional circumstances. Taking holidays in term time will affect your child’s schooling as much as any other absence and we expect parents/carers to help us by not taking children away in school time. There is no automatic entitlement to time off in school time for holidays.

Leave of absence for matters such as holidays, funerals or religious observance should be requested using the leave of absence form - Student Absence Request Form

GP and dentist appointments should be made for outside of school hours. If attending a hospital or orthodontic appointment which cannot be moved, please ensure that your child comes in for the rest of the day. An appointment card or letter is also required if the absence leads to a loss in school hours. If this is not produced the absence will be shown as unauthorised.

Any period of leave taken without the agreement of the school, or in excess of that agreed, will be classed as unauthorised and will attract sanctions such as Fixed Penalty Notices or even prosecution

If you have any concerns about your child’s attendance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
