A group of aspiring dancers from Carter Community School found themselves in the spotlight when they took part in a specialist dance project with the world famous BalletBoyz.
As part of the project, run by academy sponsor United Learning and involving some of its other schools including Glenmoor and Winton Academies, students were invited to attend a special workshop in London with the BalletBoyz.
During the workshop, students learnt choreographic processes and movement material, which they then used to create a performance piece. Members of the BalletBoyz then visited the schools, including Carter, to provide guidance and support, with Carter students basing their piece around the 'Rodeo-Hoe Down' by Aaron Copland.
The Carter students then developed their piece every Friday and during the Easter holidays, culminating in an invitation to Stratford Arts Theatre along with those other schools taking part for final rehearsals with the BalletBoyz, before performing their production.
Commented Carter Community School’s Principal, Ms Sam Davidson:
“It’s important that as part of our commitment to provide our students with an Education with Character, that they have the opportunity to work with organisations such as BalletBoyz. This has been an incredible experience for them and one that they will remember for a long time to come. A huge ‘well done and congratulations’ to all involved in what has been an incredibly inspirational experience.”
