We are delighted to be celebrating after scooping two awards at United Learning’s national Best in Everyone Awards.
Benjamin Gregory won the Leadership and Service Award, whilst Cary Wicks won School Governor or the Year.
The Best in Everyone Awards celebrate the exceptional achievements of students and staff at United Learning schools and academies across the country. They include awards for academic excellence, extracurricular achievements and for service to school communities.
Hundreds of nominations were received, which were then carefully considered by a judging panel, with Ben being nominated for the countless ways he supports and contributes to school life.
As well as serving on the School Council, Ben assists the Lighting and Sound Department when putting on school productions and organises sporting activities as part of the School Games Sports Leaders scheme. Outside of school, Ben has volunteered at the RNLI since he was six and has raised over £1,000 for them. He also mentors young figure skaters and volunteers at his local ice rink.
Chair of Governors, Cary Wicks, also impressed the Best in Everyone judging panel, with the inspiring way she motivates and supports students and staff. Having been a governor since 2011, she knows the school well and has played a pivotal role in supporting staff drive standards in recent years.
Under Cary’s leadership, the governing body, which includes individuals with experience and expertise in a wide range of different areas, is now highly effective at supporting the school live up to its ethos of ‘Expect the Best’.
Both Benjamin and Cary received their awards at a special ceremony held at Oxford Town Hall on Friday 29 June. On collecting his award, Benjamin said: “I feel very pleased to have won this award and am also very thankful to school for nominating me - it's a huge privilege.”
On receiving her award, Cary Wicks commented: “Carter is an amazing school and has undergone an incredible transformation in the last four years. The Local Governing Body, as a whole, has contributed to this, but all the staff and the Senior Leadership Team have made the change happen. I am grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to play a part and I am humbled to receive this award.”
Congratulating the winners, Sam Davidson, our Principal said: “Ben is a student you can always count on to volunteer. He is a credit both to his family and school and he epitomises the United Learning ethos and values of ambition, confidence, creativity, respect, enthusiasm and determination.
“We are also hugely fortunate to have Cary as our Chair of Governors. She has had an immeasurable impact on our school and Carter would simply not be the same without her. Both Benjamin and Cary thoroughly deserve their awards.”
