Selected Year 8 students recently took part in a series of poetry slam workshops, delivered by local poet Matt West. With his expert help, they created their own spoken word performances, ranging from topics such as vegetarianism and cats. In the final workshop, Carter students battled it out for a place in the county final, an inter-school competition taking place at The Lighthouse.
Summer Dews, Georgia Case, Jessica Playford and Omar Samer were voted by their peers to go up other students from Poole High School, Ferndown Upper School and QE in a nerve-wracking competition. They were judged by a panel of local poets, publicly scoring their performances out of 10 in the traditional style of a slam.
All Carter students did exceptionally well, demonstrating flair and originality in their work. A special mention goes to Omar Samer, for placing second in the overall competition with his poem on a bulldog. A huge well done to all the students who participated and for showing what it means to be #MadeinCarter.
